Honoring Dr. King's Legacy

To celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day this year, Volunteers from Syneos Health visited Louis Nine House to prepare breakfast, hear a panel of NCS clients reflect on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s famous quotes, and remember all that he did for the civil rights movement and overall social progress in the US.

Dr. King was a pioneer for the promotion of nonviolent resistance and collective liberation and accomplished unprecedented amounts of progress in the American Civil Rights Movement. He was a pillar of strength and inspiration for Black liberation, but also for equality for all in every sense. Not only did he lead the way to accomplish more civil rights legislation than any other time in history, but he spent the last few years of his life organizing to combat the US’ poverty dilemma as well.

One of the best ways to honor MLK’s legacy is to not just observe the holiday but dedicate it as a day of service and active remembrance of his ever-relevant and valuable teachings.

Syneos Global Head of Patient Diversity & Health Equity, Batisha Anson, spoke to tenants, community members and guests about the extremely important role that Dr. King played in US history and challenged everyone to continue his legacy.

For many of the Syneos Health team, this was their first time meeting in person, making the day even more exciting with so many new encounters!

Additionally, we had clients in attendance from various NCS program sites to come together and share in this empowering occasion in a safe space.

The day ended with arts and crafts, games, and conversation.

We are so grateful to have such generous corporate partners, like Syneos Health, to spend their holiday preparing and sharing a delicious meal with our clients while honoring Dr. King's legacy in a beautiful way.

Thank you so much to Devyn Reidy, Options' Vocational Specialist, as well as Elizabeth McGuire, Options' Program Manager, for coordinating such a special day!
