NCS at 35: Community Helping the Homeless
Wednesday, April 18, 2018 from 6:00pm to 9:30pm (EST)
On April 18th Neighborhood Coalition for Shelter celebrated 35 years of providing housing and support for New Yorkers struggling with homelessness. We looked at what we've accomplished, what we still need to do and what everyone in the community can do to make a difference.
We were inspired by Officer Frank Rendina, whose compassionate act sets an example for us all; Dave Heath and Randy Goldberg, who as co-founders of Bombas, were driven to act after learning that socks are the most requested item in homeless shelters (and have since donated more than 7 million pairs of socks based on a one for one model); and Victoria Bert, a former NCS resident who showed us what the end of homelessness can and should look like.
Our guests not only enjoyed a beautiful spring evening at the Central Park Loeb Boathouse but went home with our new "How to Help" guides along with Street Sheets (our pocket-sized resource guide) and a pair of Bombas socks to be given to those in need.
